The Philadelphia Public School Notebook is one of my favorite newspapers anywhere.
Because they only report on issues related to public education in Philadelphia, they are able to shine a light on the minutiae that less focused news outlets don’t have the space or energy for (or intentionally sweep under the rug), and as an independent, nonprofit news source they give a voice to parents, students, educators and members of the community – voices that at times are otherwise hard to hear.
This year they held their Annual Celebration at the University of the Arts and they asked me to exhibit some of my photographs of schools that closed last year. It was a really wonderful party and it was awesome to be in the same room with hundreds of public education advocates. A bunch of very talented students from CAPA played lovely jazz music all evening and also drew caricatures.
The Notebook ran a really nice writeup of my work here.
Consider becoming a member – they are doing truly tremendous work and can use all the support they can get.
Below are a few phone snapshots of the evening!
(Me & my good buddy Jesse “The Kud” Kudler, who works for Fight For Philly, showing off our caricatures!)
